Dear parents and carers,

It is my pleasure to share with you the outcome of our latest inspection, which took place last June. Ofsted have published the report today, and it is full of positives for the school and the community.

Our last inspection took place in 2023. Today’s report, using a new and more rigorous framework, is evidence of significant improvement since then. Inspectors have judged Fowey Primary School as meeting expected standard in all seven of Ofsted’s new judgment categories.

As a staff body, we are proud that inspectors recognised the journey we have been on, as well as the impact the support of our Trust has had.

In 2023, inspectors singled out the quality of education and our early years provision as requiring improvement.

Today, inspectors note that “since the previous inspection, the trust has invested significantly in the early years.” As a result, “children get off to a positive start to school and progress well from their starting points.”

Meanwhile, ‘quality of education’ is no longer a single judgment, but the report is full of evidence of our progress here too. It highlights that we “have put considerable thought and care into designing an ambitious curriculum for mixed-age classes.” And as a result, our learners “work purposefully and show pride in their learning.”

But what we are perhaps proudest of are the comments about our inclusive school culture.

The report says: “Pupils, including those who are disadvantaged or have special educational needs and/or disabilities, get the help they need to thrive.” It also highlights that “the school’s inclusive ethos is demonstrated through the positive relationships staff forge with pupils and their families.”

I’m sure we all feel the benefits of that every day. In fact, I was particularly pleased to read that many of you “recognise the changes the school has made and can see the impact on your children’s experience at school”.

Inspectors said that you “appreciate the commitment of the whole staff team”, and I want you to know in return that we greatly appreciate your support.

The next phase of our journey has already begun. With the help of the incredible network of CELT schools, we are working hard on the next steps the report sets out for us – and on much more besides.

For now, this report makes for a truly positive start to the school year. I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the progress we’ve made, and I want to thank you in advance for your support as we push forward with providing every child at Fowey Primary School an even more exceptional educational experience.
